History of tobacco

History of tobacco.

Tobacco has a long history in the Americas. The Mayans of Mexico carved drawings in caves and stone using tobacco. These drawings date back to somewhere between 600 to 900 A.D. Tobacco was grown by American Indians before the Europeans came from Europe. Native Americans smoked tobacco through a pipe for special religious and medical purposes. They did not smoke every day.

Tobacco was the first cash crop grown in north america, which soul purpose was to make money. In 1612 people who recently inhabited Jamestown, Virginia, began growing tobacco as their main profit bringer. Other cash crops such as corn, cotton, wheat, sugar, and soya beans also brought in profit, just not as much profit as tobacco. Tobacco also helped fund the revolutionary war with England. Plus our first president, George Washington grew tobacco.

By the 1800's, many people had begun using tobacco. Some chewed it, others smoked it, occasionally in a pipe, or they hand-rolled a cigarette or cigar. On average, people in the 1800’s smoked about 40 cigarettes a year. The first commercial cigarettes were made in 1865 by Washington Duke on his 300-acre farm in Raleigh, North Carolina.

It was not until James Bonsack invented the cigarette-making machine in 1881 that cigarette smoking became widespread. Bonsack's cigarette machine could make 120,000 cigarettes a day. He went into business with Washington Duke's son, James "Buck" Duke. They built a factory and made 10 million cigarettes their first year and about one billion cigarettes five years later. The first brand of cigarettes were packaged in a box with baseball cards and were called Duke of Durham. Buck Duke and his father started the first tobacco company in the U.S. They named it the American Tobacco Company.

1. The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I decided to read this book because I am a huge fan of mythology. When I began to read the original Percy jackson series I was immediatley addicted to Riordan's books.
2. Stronger by Micheal Carroll. In the first three books of that series three teenagers that have extraordinary super powers such as super strength, super speed, and the ability to fly. I thought it would be fun to do have those powers then I wondered how I would use them so I kept on reading and got to liking it.
3. Outcast by Michelle Paver. When Torak's father is killed by a demonic bear torak's runs for his life and finds a wolf pup. At first he was going to skin and eat it, but he decided to nurse it to health and keep it. Little did he know that this pup would soon become his best friend and also save Torak's life multiple times.
4. Maze Runner by James Dashner. Thomas wakes up to find himself in the glade. A massive maze that every 30 days a new boy is brought to. But the next day something surprising happens. The first girl ever to be in the glade appears, she brings a terrifying message along with her.
 5. Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric S. Nylund. Human civilization has flourished. They have expanded to deep outer space. John aka spartan 117 goes through training to become a super soldier and survives, just before mankinds greatest threat so far show's its face... The Covenant.

8. Halo: Cryptum: Book one of the forerunner saga by Greg Bear. Long ago before humans or the covenant, there was a civilization of highly intellegent beings. We call them the forerunners. Forgiveness

If I were on the Titanic I don't think I could forgive the crew and Captain for not telling me about us sinking we have a right to know wether or not we are going to die. They shoud've fore warned us, it doesn't matter if theres panic if we are all gonna die. There would be just as much panic as at the last moment before the ship sinks.
